Our story

Lewisham Sports Consortium began as a voluntary organisation in June 1998, became a Company Limited by Guarantee in November 2001, and was registered as a charity in May 2005 (registered charity no. 1109468, company no. 04318063). We are run entirely by volunteer trustees, with no paid staff.

The Consortium was formed in response to a lack of accessible sports space in Lewisham, and to help address disadvantage among Black and minority ethnic sportspeople in the borough. We first revived the Summerhouse Playing Field, and were later awarded the Firhill playing field — now Firhill Road Sports Ground.

Our objectives

  • Provide sport and recreation facilities for the local community.
  • Advance the education of young people through sport, mentoring and life skills.

Our facilities

Firhill Road Sports Ground offers 3 full-sized adult pitches, 1 junior pitch and 2 small-sided pitches, plus training areas. We run a Saturday football programme and the ground is available for community event hire.

Working in partnership

We work alongside Lewisham Borough Council, Bellingham Youth Forum, JUMP, the local police, Lewisham Envirowork and The Prince’s Trust to deliver sport and youth opportunities across the borough.
